Trauma Therapy
Are you wondering if what you're going through is a sign of trauma? Do you have intrusive thoughts? Do you feel chronic despair? Confused why your life is not easier?
You're not alone. Trauma affects many individuals, manifesting in various symptoms that can impact your daily life. Sometimes what is traumatic is clear, and, sometimes the need to heal from trauma can be elusive. It is very possible that you have had trauma and do not know it consciously. This sometimes takes place in childhood, when how we grew up was just "normal," because it was all we knew. It's not until adulthood that we experience the symptoms.
Often, these are the symptoms of hidden or forgotten trauma:
- Patterns of poor relationships
- Ability to tolerate more than we should
- Fantasy is better than reality
- Self-medicating, avoiding, escaping reality
- Distrust in others and self
- Treating your body poorly: over or under eating, promiscuity, not tending to health and wellbeing
- Blame self and others resulting in consistent frustration
- Tolerating bad relationships at work, home, or with family
- Black and white, all or nothing thinking
- Pattern of hiding yourself or not being honest
- Chronic difficulty
Often, these are the symptoms of a traumatic event(s):
- Intense feelings of distress when reminded of past events?
- Avoiding situations or places that remind you of past trauma
- Persistent sense of fear, anger, sadness, or guilt and don't know why
- Nightmares or flashbacks about the event
- Feelings of detachment or isolation from others
- Is it challenging for you to concentrate or remember important aspects of the traumatic event?
- Easily startled or always on edge
If these experiences feel familiar, it might be time to consider the possibility of therapy. Recognizing these symptoms is the first step towards healing.

Embrace Change and Trust in Trauma Recovery
Embarking on this journey requires courage and a willingness to embrace change. Healing from trauma is not a linear process; it's more like a spiral. But with each opportunity, you process the meaning of trauma in a different way, working you to wholeness. You don't have to navigate this path alone. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength.
